Artifact: ActivInspire Training Wiki
Reflection:
The artifact provided for this standard is a link to a wiki site I developed to accompany a technology-based professional development workshop I facilitated. The workshop focused on increasing student engagement by utilizing interactive and innovative strategies on the Promethean Board. This wiki site was designed to provide additional support and resources to participants, while also providing a collaborative space for the sharing of ideas and resources. The site includes video tutorials, links to online resources, and handouts that were utilized in the training session.
Standard 3.1 outlines effective classroom management and collaborative learning strategies that maximize usage of digital tools and resources. This artifact demonstrates my understanding of a powerful collaborative learning resource that can be used to enrich student learning experience and facilitate professional collaboration. In the attached artifact, I developed a collaborative space for teachers to access and contribute information that enhances professional learning and facilitates student learning experiences.
As a frequent consumer of information from wiki sites, I thought I understood this resource. However, this project taught me that in order to have a meaningful collaborative experience; there must be ample contribution from all parties. From a more practical perspective, I learned how to use a digital resource to enhance the learning experiences in my classroom. This experience opened my eyes to resources that help break down classroom walls and ignite collaboration on a global platform. While this was tremendous learning experience, I still would like to improve my artifact. If given the opportunity to advance this project, I would like to expand the categories on my wiki site to increase the amount of available information and resources. I feel this would be beneficial to me as a learner and as a teacher.
Actively managing a classroom and facilitating collaborative learning in a classroom are necessary for a meaningful educational experience. With a wealth of digital tools and resources, like wikis, there are numerous ways to efficiently and effectively maximize student learning and professional development experiences. In this experience, I learned about one of these resources. I was able to share my learning with my peers and with my colleagues. Many of my colleagues used this information to access and share professional learning resources with teachers across the United States. These resources contribute to professional growth and provide innovative ideas for instructional practice, which ultimately enhances student learning. Furthermore, we began the process of teaching students how to be active contributors and consumers of these collaborative resources. This skill will help prepare students to succeed in a technology-driven, global society.
