Artifact: Field Experience Log
Reflection:
This artifact is a field experience log completed for ITEC 7480 in the summer of 2012. This field experience log outlines unstructured, technology-based field experience conducted during the course of the semester. As described in the field experience log, I conducted a two day, professional development workshop focused on using interactive whiteboards to increase student engagement. This field experience log contains a description of the activities, time frames, PSC Standards, participant diversity, as well as an in-depth reflection about the experience.
This standard focuses on field experiences designed to facilitate synthesis and application of the content and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions addressed in the coursework. This field experience log outlines my learning experience which included facilitating a professional development workshop. In this experience, I applied my learning from the coursework by conducting a workshop for a diverse group of educators. In this field experience log, I also reflected upon the knowledge, skills, and disposition applied in this experience. This field experience, like many others, required me to utilize my understanding of the content or ideas, apply my skills to implement, and display a positive disposition in a relevant context. This field experience log demonstrates one of many opportunities in which I have had to address this standard.
The field experience outlined in this log represented a pivotal learning experience for me. In this experience, I had the opportunity to apply my learning about student engagement, adult learning, and change theory in context. In addition to gaining experience in facilitating professional development, this provided me the opportunity to learn more about communication and collaboration. Completing this field experience log also helped me reflect upon the experience and the impact of the experience on my development as a technology leader. Since facilitating this workshop, I have had the opportunity to present the information in a variety of settings. Each time, I make minor revisions and changes to enhance the quality and impact of the presentation.
The purpose of the professional development session I conducted as a field experience was to help teachers use interactive white boards to increase student engagement. As evidenced by significant research sources, interactive white boards, when utilized effectively, increase student interest and engagement. Increased student engagement leads to higher levels of achievement. By preparing teachers to engage their students, this workshop provided professional development to the participants. The ideal result of this professional development is an increase in student learning and achievement as teachers apply their learning in practice. This impact of the interactive white board on student engagement and achievement can be measured through surveys, test scores, or behavioral documentation.
